360° Summit panorama Bürglen (Gantrisch).
A large alpine solar plant (name: Morgeten Solar) is to be built in this largely untouched and intact mountain landscape. The large, around 6m high solar panels would be placed on the funnel-shaped slopes on the left-hand side of the picture.
Alarmed by the threat of an electricity shortage following the start of the war in Ukraine, the Swiss parliament passed the Solar Express at the end of 2022. 60% subsidies are to be granted to those who build large solar plants in the Swiss Alps that can feed at least 10% of the total energy into the grid by the end of 2025. The approval procedures have been simplified for this purpose.
Since then, there has been a real gold-rush atmosphere in the Swiss Alps: around 30 large Alpine PV systems are currently being planned.
It is to be hoped that the problem of energy shortages in winter is not solved with measures that cause new problems and/or make nature (landscape and biodiversity) the big loser. Otherwise the 'Solar Express' risks going down in history as an ill-conceived 'solar quick fix'.
In untouched mountain landscapes with largely intact nature, alpine solar plants should only be built if all other possibilities have been exhausted beforehand. The operators of approved installations should be held accountable if the targets promised in the planning application in terms of yield and environmental impact are not achieved.P Panorama: Gantrisch - Stockhorn - Schreckhorn - Eiger - Mönch - Niesen - Jungfrau - Looherehürli - Lauterbrunnen Breithorn - Schwidenegg - Blüemlisalp - Doldenhorn - Hohniesen - Balmhorn - Morgeten Solar - Turnen - Rinderhorn - Gross Lohner - Steghorn - Weisshorn - Wildstrubel - Albristhorn - Niderhorn - Wildhorn - Oldenhorn - Oldenhorn - Mont Blanc - Gemsflue - Schibe - Kaiseregg - Ochsen |
